Club Head Coach at 2017 Summer Universiade

(Aug. 14/15, 2017) – OTTAWA, ON – Congratulations to our Club Head Coach and Technical Director Raz El-Asmar who was named the Assistant Coach of the Canadian Women’s Soccer Team for the 2017 FISU Summer Universiade. “The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation(FISU).”(1)

This year’s games will be held in Taipei, Taiwan and will run August 19-30, 2017. Raz will reunite with former Cap U standout Katherine Koehler-Grassau (UOIT Ridgebacks), a Team Canada midfielder. You can check out the rest of the roster here.

Prior to the Games, the team has been doing some training at UCLA. While there, Raz got to meet the Italian soccer legend Alessandro Del Piero.

Summer Camp

(July 13, 2017) – OTTAWA, ON – Our second week of camp is well underway and we hope our campers are having fun! Judging by the photos below, it looks like week 1 went well for our YDP U4-U11 players and Competitive Youth Boys U12-U15 teams.

Our New Canadians Kicking Up a Storm

Saturday, June 24, is a big day for St. Matthew’s (and FACES) refugee families.   They will be heading out to Lansdowne Park to watch the Ottawa Fury team play the New York Red Bull Football Club. 
Seven young people from the FACES supported families are now playing the beautiful game at soccer pitches across the city, thanks to financial assistance from Canadian Tire, the Ottawa Internationals Soccer Club, FC Capital United and Ottawa Footy Sevens.
Eleven year old Al helw Abdul Rzak from Iraq is playing in the Internationals program at Owl Park on Tuesday and Thursday in south Ottawa.
Our three new friends from the Congo are playing each weekend for FC Capital United at Ecole des pins at Cyrville/Innes Road. 11 year old Diane Umuhoza is enjoying her summer long program along with her brothers, 10 year old Ivan Ntwali and 9 year old Alvin Manzi.
In the meantime, three young men from Burundi who met here in Ottawa, Fabrice Niyungeko, Lionel Ntibaharire and Benjamin Hakizimana are enjoying their Monday evenings at Carleton University playing in the Ottawa Footy Sevens co-ed adult program.
Fabrice, a skilled and experienced player in his own right, states, “The team is co-ed, but the girls are so professional in soccer and we enjoy playing with them! We really appreciate the games as we are in a highly motivated team, each giving a lot encouragement to each other during the matches.”
“We have also had many funny moments”, he continued. “During one of our first games, it was very rainy and my soccer boots were full of water. I shot on goal and my now loose shoe went with the ball! The goalkeeper was momentarily confused as to whether to catch the ball or the shoe.  We all had a good laugh.”
“The soccer program is very beneficial for us and we enjoy playing with others, making new Canadian friends and at the same time, staying healthy. We are thankful for being able to join the team. May God bless all at St. Matthew’s.”

Picture Day

(June 19, 2017) – OTTAWA, ON – Our annual team/individual photo day is this Saturday, June 24. Photos will be taken during regularly scheduled Saturday training sessions for our YDP and competitive players. Please arrive early to soccer on Saturday, wearing your Capital United uniform (blue for our competitive teams).

YDP Summer Schedule Updates

(June 13, 2017) – OTTAWA, ON – We have some YDP schedule updates to report:

  1. YDP sessions WILL be held on Saturday, June 17
  2. Summer break: now runs July 1-16. Celebrate Canada Day with your friends and family and we’ll see you back at our regular sessions starting July 17
  3. End date: we’re adding an extra week of programming – the summer session will now run until September 9. Enjoy an extra week with us this summer!

Bon Voyage U13 Boys!

(May 19, 2017) – OTTAWA, ON – Our U13 (’04) Boys are on their way to their much anticipated trip to the renowned Mondial Pupilles De Plomelin tournament in France! Prior to attending the actual Mondial, as in past years, the boys will be hosted at the Centre Regional Technique in Nantes where they will be training daily and playing friendly games against local youth clubs/academies. This year is Capital United’s 15th invitation and appearance at this prestigious event which is an important part of our International Program. The team will return to Canada on May 29th.

YDP Start Delayed (Again) – Updated Schedule

(May 17, 2017) – OTTAWA, ON – Due to City of Ottawa field use restrictions (and Mother Nature) we will need to modify our YDP start dates yet again.

We will be up and running with our regular program and schedule as of Saturday, May 27. Below is our modified schedule for May 20-25:

Saturday, May 20:
9am: U4  kit distribution and information session
10am: U5 kit distribution and information session
* there are NO other sessions this day
 
Monday, May 22 – 6:30-7:30pm: U6 kit distribution and some play time
Tuesday, May 23 – 6:30-7:30pm: U7  kit distribution and some play time
Wednesday, May 24 – 6:30-7:30pm: U8  kit distribution and some play time
Thursday, May 25 – 6:30-7:30pm: U9 to U11  kit distribution and some play time
 
YDP Plus will begin Friday, June 2

YDP Start Delayed

(May 10, 2017) – OTTAWA, ON – The start of the YDP season has been postponed by a week due to the heavy rains we have been experiencing. The new start date is May 20. The City of Ottawa has postponed all use of fields for the same reasons. We will keep you posted with more information once it is available!

On another note, we are still accepting registrations for the season and for the summer camps. Refer a friend to register for the season and receive a $10 credit following their registration.

Le début de la saison du programme de développement est reporté d’une semaine (20 mai) suite aux pluies reçues ces dernières semaines. La villle d’Ottawa à repousser l’utilisation des terrains pour cette même raison. Nous enverrons un autre communiqué avez les détails pour le début de la saison et la distribution de l’équipement.

À noter que nous acceptons encore des inscriptions au programme et aux camps d’été. Invitez un ami à se joindre au programme et recevez un crédit de 10$ suite à leur inscription.
