Cap U Announces Alliance with CUSC

(Nov. 3, 2017) – OTTAWA, ON – Capital United is pleased to announce an alliance with Cumberland United Soccer Club (CUSC). Read more below.

On October 1, 2017, Capital United FC (Cap U) and Cumberland United S.C. (CUSC) formed an alliance to share resources aimed at enhancing both player and coaching development efforts within both organizations in 2018 and beyond.

Both Cap U and CUSC have solid reputations for producing outstanding teams and players, and share common values in their approach to player, coach, and team development. “Not only are these two of the main clubs in the east end of Ottawa, but in terms of coaching, player development, and organization, the clubs see very much eye to eye, which is a big reason why we jointly decided to form this alliance” explains CUSC general manager Pavel Cancura.

With CUSC’s entrance into the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) this season, the alliance made further sense to both clubs. The OPDL is a franchise-based league, where the top 27 clubs in the province compete in a provincial youth league, under a common objective of maintaining the highest development standards for all players, at all levels. These standards alongside commitment to player development are long-standing priorities for both clubs.

On a practical level, the alliance will see Raz El-Asmar, Cap U’s highly respected Technical Director and Club Head Coach, lending his coaching expertise to the CUSC’s girls’ Elite Academy program (U13-U16), part of the unique after-school training program at CUSC. This program includes the inaugural girls’ OPDL team that will kick off its first league campaign in the spring of 2018.

Additionally, Goal Keeper coach Tania Singfield (U17 Women’s National Team, Director of Golden Gloves Academy) will be working with goalkeepers from both clubs. This will further develop and improve goalkeeper capacity both within the clubs and in our region. CUSC General Manager, Pavel Cancura notes that “Tania is one of the very best goalkeeper coaches we have in Canada, and both clubs are blessed to have her working with their keepers.”

Cap U Technical Director, Raz El-Asmar adds, “This alliance is an exciting adventure as we enter a new chapter that will see greater collaboration, sharing common values and leveraging of resources with the priority to enhance player development and experience.”

Beyond that, both clubs plan to continue identifying ways to collaborate that will inspire coaches, players and parents, while improving programs for all players. Both clubs are committed to ensuring that the alliance between Cap U and CUSC becomes an example of a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
